A lawyer by training, CH’NG Poh Tiong works principally as a wine journalist and is publisher of The Wine Review (since 1991), the oldest wine publication in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and China. He is also publisher of the website www.chngpohtiong.com and, since 2000, the world’s first Chinese Bordeaux Guide.
A columnist for the United Kingdom’s Decanter magazine, Ch’ng is also Regional Chair, Middle East, Far East & Asia, Decanter World Wine Awards, and a Vice-Chairman of Decanter Asia Wine Awards. He is also a judge of The World of Fine Wine magazine’s ‘World’s Best Wine Lists’ competition. Ch’ng also writes a blog in Sina.com, perhaps China’s biggest internet portals; and columns in RVF (La Revue du Vin de Fance) China and Aussino Wine Life magazine. Ch’ng Poh Tiong is also author of the bi-lingual Chinese/English book 108 Great Chinese Dishes Paired and ebook at www.108chinesepairings.com.
He is wine consultant to NTUC FairPrice and Finest, Singapore’s largest supermarket chain and adviser to Cellar Privilege, the Bordeaux based negociant owned by Chinese actress Zhao Wei. Ch’ng Poh Tiong’s paternal ancestry is from Hui’an, Fujian Province, and on his maternal side, Shunde, Guangdong Province. He holds a postgraduate Certificate with Distinction in Chinese Art from the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London, and is an ambassador of The European Fine Art Fair also known as TEFAF Maastricht.
